My name is Courtland Funke and I’m a teacher, parent, techie, and geek. This blog is one part of a plan to be more creative on my part. Most of my posts will fall into at least one of the following four categories…
Geek – I mostly geek out over comic books, movies, and music but I’ve got a few side passions here and there that might surface in some posts now and then. I’ve been reading comic books since I was 13 years old in 1984. I bought my first issue (Uncanny X-Men #193 and #194) at White’s Drug Store and was immediately hooked.
Tech – I’m too cheap to be an early adopter. Thankfully, I have a job that provides me with cool toys on occasion. I started using computers in jr. high school when a friend and I requested the school create a computer class for us so we didn’t have to take wood shop again. My parents soon brought our first computer (an Apple IIe) into the house and I’ve been using them ever since. I was the guy in the dorm in college that people would pay to type their papers for them because they didn’t know how to type.
Teacher – I have been the computer teacher at an elementary school for the last 12 years. It wasn’t what I set out to do when I got my teaching degree but I can’t imagine doing anything else at this point.
Dad – My wife and I have 2 daughters (1 in kindergarten and the other an infant) and a lot of what you read here will be filtered through my experiences with them.
